Yellow nails: the most effective remedies to whiten your nails naturally with ingredients readily available in the pantry and tips to always have perfect nails.
Hands are our business card and if they are not well cared for, they can really damage our image. Yellow, neglected, streaked or perhaps very fragile nails can be the consequence of our bad habits or the symptom of a health problem.
Yellowed nails are a blemish that should not be underestimated! Trying to mask yellow nails with nail polishes or effective nail art is useless, on the contrary we risk only hiding a problem that should instead be identified. In fact, we must not dwell on the problem linked to the external appearance but understand what factors trigger this imperfection.
Yellow nails as a symptom of a health problem
As already mentioned, it is good to understand the cause of yellowed nails, so as to be able to intervene promptly with the most appropriate treatments. Yellow nails can be the alarm bell for some diseases. Take note!
Yellow nails can be the result of a lack of micro nutrients. For example, lack of proteins, minerals and vitamins, all substances useful for the health of our body. It is therefore essential to make sure that our diet includes foods that contain all the substances our body needs.
Some infections or problems related to the liver, the respiratory system or the circulatory system can cause the appearance of yellow nails. Among the infections, we can mention mycosis, a fungus that penetrates the microscopic cracks in the surface of the nails and expands.
Yellow nails, problems related to bad habit
Yellow nails can be the cause of some factors not necessarily related to a health problem. Bad habits also play a major role. Let's see some of them
Smoking is among the most common causes of yellow nails! Nicotine, in fact, leads to yellowing of the nails. Quitting smoking is the only solution to remedy this ugly imperfection.
Excessive use of nail polish
Prolonged use of enamels and aggressive solvents can cause the formation of yellowish spots or dark shadows on the surface layer of the nails. Pay close attention when using these products! Our recommendation is to apply a clear coat of nail polish before using the colored one, at least we will have some kind of protection.
Yellow nails, natural remedies
As already mentioned, yellow nails can be the alarm bell of some health problems, so it is preferable to consult a specialist to avoid a rather serious problem. In the meantime, we can suggest a simple remedy to take care of the appearance of your nails. It is a do-it-yourself treatment whose ingredients have high beneficial and therapeutic properties. Here are the ingredients we will need for our treatment:
Lemon has bleaching, antiseptic and antifungal properties. In addition to being an excellent ally in household cleaning, it is also a widely used ingredient in body care.
To remove the yellowing of the nails, we can rub a slice of lemon on the nails and leave it to act for about 10 minutes. After the time has elapsed, you can remove the lemon residues with warm water.
Alternatively, you can soak your nails in lemon juice for about 5 minutes then scrub them with a soft-bristled toothbrush and wash them with water. After treatment, always apply a moisturizer.
White vinegar or apple cider vinegar
Another very popular product for those who love do-it-yourself is vinegar. This precious ingredient has several beneficial properties as well as being an effective antifungal.
To eliminate yellow nails we can make a mixture based on water and vinegar: 100 ml of water and 100 ml of vinegar. Soak your fingernails or toenails in this compound for about 20 minutes then rinse with warm water. Do the treatment twice a week for at least six weeks.
Obviously, among the natural whiteners par excellence, sodium bicarbonate cannot be missing. It is also a valid exfoliant, therefore particularly suitable for eliminating impurities from hands and feet. By combining baking soda with olive oil we will obtain a natural whitener against yellow nails. Just add a tablespoon of oil with 2 tablespoons of baking soda, mix well and rub the mixture on your nails with a toothbrush. Leave on for 5 minutes then rinse. Repeat the treatment twice a week for at least 1 month.
